A Future Nurse Learns About the Stages of Alcoholism

Helen was a senior in high school.  Due to the fact that she wanted to become a nurse, she was especially interested in all of the health-related topics.  Of particular interest to her was alcohol abuse and alcoholism.  Although she was still a teenager, she already experienced some of the pain of alcohol abuse and alcoholism due to the fact that some of her family members and friends were problem drinkers. Helen was especially pleased therefore, when her health teacher, Miss McCoy, dedicated two solid weeks to the topic of drinking problems and the stages of alcoholism.  It was this kind of information that helped Helen gain a better understanding of abusive drinking and the need for professional treatment for anyone who has a drinking problem.
