Another 9 Useful Tips - Heartburnz and Persistent Heartburn

The following article contains, what I think at least, useful tips about heartburnz and persistant heartburn.

Let’s face it, reading 9 tips isn’t going to change your life, but at least it will give you an idea about what you can find out about Heartburnz.

I hope that you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed collating them. You can never know enough about Heartburnz, can you?

Tip #1

If you suffer more from the heartburn portion of acid reflux disease one answer may be the use of proton pump inhibitors.  Most people have seen or heard an advertisement for Prilosec, a proton pump inhibitor that helps with fighting off acid reflux disease.  Proton pump inhibitors like Prilosec with blocking the production of acid and secretions of acid into the stomach.  The beauty of a proton pump inhibitor is that it works for a considerably longer amount of time than an antacid.

Tip #2

The histamine antagonists are much like the antacids in that it also matters when and where you take the pills before or after eating the meal in question.  Histamine antagonists are generally longer lasting than antacids, but it generally works to take the pills at least 30 minutes before eating the meal.  When the meal is then eaten it will be digested with the histamine antagonists at work in full force.  Many people who suffer from gastroesophageal reflux disease will also take the histamine antagonists just before going to bed to assist in eliminating acid reflux during the night.

Tip #3

The thing about surgery for acid reflux and indigestion is that the recovery can be difficult and the results are not always consistent.  Many people will feel complete relief and others won’t.  In addition, it is often possible for the problem to reoccur, even after surgery and more surgery may be necessary.

Tip #4

While only 10% of gastroesophageal reflux disease sufferers are also afflicted with Barrett’s Esophagus, it is worth treating due to the possibility of cancer being present.  The presence of extreme amounts of heartburn in the esophagus is thought to be a cause of Barrett’s Esophagus and cancer in general.  It is suggested that the individual suffering from GERD take periodic examinations to ensure that the esophagus is free of cancer.

Tip #5

The most common type of acid reflux surgery is that of fundoplication or anti-reflux surgery to reroute or restructure the stomach in hope of overcoming the disease.  The doctor will start by making a small incision in the abdomen or some may choose to use a less invasive procedure called laparoscopy, a technique that uses several small punctured holes to view the stomach with small viewing devices.  The doctor will then goes in and perform a procedure that could make a massive difference in a person’s life.

Tip #6

Not every person who suffers from acid reflux has a hiatal hernia, but most who have a hiatal hernia do suffer from acid reflux.  The effect of a hiatal hernia on acid reflux is not known for sure, but it is generally assumed that hiatal hernias do have something to do with gastroesophageal reflux disease.  It is important to understand how the lower esophageal sphincter, or LES, relates to the condition called acid reflux because a hiatal hernia does affect the LES, which in turn causes acid reflux.

Tip #7

If you were ever looking for an excuse not to eat your potatoes acid reflux can give you the help you need. Potatoes and onions are among the biggest culprits for acid reflux and heartburn, as far as vegetables go.

Tip #8

Everyone loves a big and hearty meal, but the traditional American Family dinners may not be the best thing for the acid reflux sufferers.  Instead of waiting for a large family meal to send you into the evening or a big lunch to help overcome the rest of the business day, try eating smaller and more frequent meals to alleviate the acid reflux problem.  With less food to distend the stomach and less work required by the stomach for the stomach to be emptied, the chances of an episode of acid reflux occurring will drop considerably.

Tip #9

The most popular and largely used drug for this disease is PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitors), this is the drug which is generally prescribed by the doctors for relief from the pains causing due to the attacks of Acid Reflux. PPI helps in stopping the production of the acidic contents in the stomach which pushes into esophagus and cause acid reflux.

Well…that’s enough tips for now. I’m sure 9 is enough to be getting along with!
